With her book The Light of Dawn, she was the first woman to translate a significant amount of the Qur'an into English. Mevlevi Wird: The Prayers Recited Everyday by Mevlevi Dervishes, Rumi Daylight and Gems of Memory (with Kabir Helminski), and Awakened Dreams and Mevlevi Ayins (with Refik Algan) are among her other translations. She is the recipient of an honorary doctorate in Arabic from the University of Damascus and the World Union of Writers (Paris).
