Light & Shade by Alan Ridout
Six easy pieces, with piano accompaniment, for E flat or F Horn.
..an enjoyable and entertaining collection of six pieces. Each has its own title and style, which encourages the pupil to explore the expressive qualities of the music. Alan Ridout has carefully thought about the range in this album, so that there is a natural progression from piece to piece. Daybreakand Morning Mist, for example, go no higher than D, whereas Sunbeams, a tricky Vivace, extends the range up to E. Hazy Afternoon, a lazy Adagio, poses some tricky rhythms, whilst Starshinechallenges the pupil with four flats - a key signature so often neglected by young players. The highest note in this collection is top G, which appears in the final piece, Harvest Moon, which is also in 5/4 time. A useful feature of both albums was the easy piano accompaniment. * The Horn *
