Lighting a Slow Fuse by Nicki Jackowska
This new collection honours Nicki Jackowska's long intimacy with language. She moves between loss and celebration, weaving poems from personal and social roots with insight, subtlety and humour. Few poets have met with such spirit the complexities of love, the world's violence, shadow and redemption, nor achieved so agile and resonant a poetic voice. Five collections are represented here. The new poems, Under Cover, explore the visible and the hidden, open up new dimensions for love, eroticism and artifice.
'Her poems.. have the freshness of improvisations. They leave you with hard, often painful events, but go on breathing in their own tides, different every time you look at them.' Ted Hughes
Nicki Jackowska trained as an actress and has frequently worked with visual artists, musicians and performers. She has published five collections of poetry, three novels, and Write for Life (Element Books, 1997) - a radical exploration of language, identity and relationship. She is a student of analytical psychology and is preparing a book on Jung.
