Julie Cole has taught at William Rainey Harper College, Mount Mary College, and the International Academy of Design and Technology. Her primary area of competence is the garment design process, from concept to manufacture. She's taught leather, coats, collections, and stretch knits building lessons, as well as design, pattern making, and draping seminars. She earned a fashion design degree from East Sydney College in Sydney, Australia, and a BFA from the International Academy of Design and Technology in the United States. Cole spent more than 30 years as a fashion designer in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia, after graduating.

She has developed collections for a variety of brands focused on teen, children's, and women's fashion, as well as working as a haute couture designer. Cole also ran her own couture bridal gown design and stitching business.
