
Maurice Whelan studied philosophy, theology and sociology in Ireland. He worked in London for many years as a field social worker and as a psychiatric social worker. He has an MA in Criminology and Social Policy. He was a visiting academic lecturer and clinical supervisor at the Tavistock Clinic in London. He trained as a psychoanalyst with the British Psycho-Analytical Society and is a member of the Australian Psycho-Analytical Society. Since 1992 he has lived and worked in Sydney. He is a past chairman of the Sydney Institute for Psycho-Analysis. His writings on social work practice, psychoanalysis and psychotherapy have been published in a variety of journals.
