Lincolnshire Folk Tales by Maureen James
Lincolnshire, a county with many variations in the dialect, once nurtured many folk tales, and though these stories may no longer be told as often as they once were, they still resonate within the rural landscape. From the dark to the humorous, many of these tales are rooted in the county and take us back to a time when the people would huddle around the fire in the mud and stud cottages to while away the long winter evenings.
Maureen James has been telling historical stories to family audiences for the past ten years at historic/heritage sites and museums. She is also a part-time writer and teacher, and is shortly to complete a PhD thesis on a group of stories collected in North Lincolnshire in the late nineteenth century. She lives in March, Cambridgeshire.
