Mark Robson is a loner. Bullied at school, he comes home to a nagging, suffocating mother and a silent, drinking father. His friend Tim seems to have joined forces with the school bullies, passing on every secret Mark's ever told him to stay in favour. But Mark suddenly begins to feel that something or someone is trying to communicate with him.
