Benedict Blathwayt spent his infancy, adolescence, and the first years of his marriage on Mull. He has written and illustrated over 50 picture books for a variety of publishers, including Julie MacRae, Walker Books, Hutchinson, OUP, and Rex Fox, and his work has been translated into 14 languages. Tangle and the Firesticks won him the Smarties Award in 1988.
