Spoolman, Scott: - Born and raised in northern Wisconsin, Scott Spoolman was fascinated with his native state's forests, waters, and rocks. His early experiences fed into a long career as a science writer. He obtained a masters degree in science journalism from the University of Minnesota and then worked for textbook publishing companies, including a stint as geology editor for McGraw-Hill, before starting a freelance writing business. He and his wife, Gail, who now live in Madison, raised two children, and as a family they explored the natural areas of Wisconsin and neighboring states.
