John Alton (born 1901) was a well-known cinematographer in the postwar American film industry. For his color photography in the film An American in Paris, he earned an Academy Award in 1951. He currently resides in Los Angeles. Todd McCarthy is Variety's main film reviewer, co-editor of King of Bs (1975), and writer and co-director of Visions of Light: The Art of Cinematography (1992), an award-winning documentary.
