The London Borough of Brent by Malcolm Barres-Baker

This superb collection of more than 200 mostly unpublished historic photographs shows the London Borough of Brent from the mid-nineteenth century to the 1990s and documents the massive changes that occurred over that period. Postcards, photographs, and some prints and drawings illustrate life in, and the distinctive character of, each district within Brent, and show the development of both the community and the built environment, as well as dealing with the changing local government of the area. The book offers both a nostalgic look back at rural Middlesex and the heyday of west London's inner and outer suburbs, and shows how Brent was transformed from farmland to vibrant, multicultural neighborhoods in less than 140 years.
Malcolm Barres-Baker is the heritage officer at Brent Museum. He is the author of a number of academic articles for journals. Rosamund King is the assistant archivist at Brent Museum. She has an background in English Literature and has spent her working life in archives and records management.
