Dare Wright (1914-2001) was a New York City-based fashion model and photographer. Her debut book, The Lonely Doll, was published in 1957 and included her childhood doll Edith and two teddy bears. The book's combination of fascinating black and white images and simple, lyrical prose made it an instant hit, landing it alongside Dare Wright's next Lonely Doll book, Christmas For Edith And The Bears, on The New York Times Best Seller list.
