He earned his MFA at the Iowa Writers' Workshop after graduating from the University of Massachusetts and playing drums for the band Cold Water Flat. Harding has also been a fiction fellow at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown and has received a Guggenheim Fellowship. He's taught at the Iowa Writers' Workshop, Harvard University, and Grinnell College, among other institutions. With his wife and two sons, he now resides in Massachusetts.
