The Longest Road by Pamela Oldfield

A woman struggles to face her tragic past - Clare was devastated after her fianc was killed in the First World War. Her only enjoyment is writing for The Ladies Journal, so her hopes rise when she is asked to write a novel. She meets editor Steven Flint, who is very encouraging, but her attempts to write are thwarted by a series of problems. Steven is a friendly shoulder to cry on but will her feelings for him cause problems?

Oldfield, Jenny: - Born and brought up in Harrogate, Yorkshire, Jenny Oldfield went on to study English at Birmingham University, where she did research on the Bronte novels and on Children's Literature. She then worked as a teacher, before deciding to concentrate on writing. She writes novels for both children and adults and, when she can escape from her desk, likes to spend time outdoors. She loves the countryside and enjoys walking, gardening, playing tennis, riding her horse Merlin and traveling with her two daughters, Kate and Eve.
