Ivone Gebara, a Brazilian Sister of Notre Dame, is a notable female theologian in South America. She has doctorates in philosophy and religious studies, and she has taught at the Recife Theology Institute (ITER) for many years. Trinity: A Word on Things New and Old (1995) and Longing for Running Water: Ecofeminism and Liberation (Fortress Press, 1999) are two of her half-dozen publications.
