Loon Lake by Jonathan London

Jonathan London's lyrical text is paired with beautiful pastel illustrations to create the gentle story of a father and daughter who share a magical moment with the natural world and with each other. Teaches respect for nature and the environment. Loons are endangered birds. Features an afterword by the author with additional facts about loons. Father and daughter set up camp on Loon Lake. Somewhere across the water they hear Loon laugh. As the full moon rises, the two ease their canoe on to the lake in search of this mysterious Rain Bird. Paddling quietly through the starlit surface, they meet other lake dwellers, but not Loon. Then suddenly he appears! And just as quickly disappears. But in return for their patience and respect for his environment, the Loon treats the girl and her father to a rare sight.
Jonathan London is the author of several books for Chronicle. Baby Whale's Journey Eyes of Gray Wolf; Fire Race PB; Hip Cat PB; Honey Paw and Lightfoot PB; Liplap's Wish PB "endangered species series" by Jonathan London (Eyes Gray Wolf, Honey Paw, Baby Whales Journey and now Loon Lake).
