M.Beth Shanholtzer, MAEd, RHIA, FAHIMA, has 35 years of experience in the field of health information management. HIM department manager positions in hospitals in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Maryland are among her previous experiences. She is currently the program director and an assistant professor for an HIM associate degree program at Lord Fairfax Community College in Middletown, Virginia, where she has been in academics for 20 years. She formerly worked at Kaplan University as a program director and associate degree program instructor. She is a member of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), has served on the Council for Excellence in Education (CEE) board, and is currently chairperson of the CEE's Faculty Development Committee.

She also helps students as a mentor. Beth has served the West Virginia Health Information Management Association as president, education chair, and legislative chair at the state level. She's given talks at AHIMA's annual convention, the Assembly on Education (AOE), and WVHIMA's conferences. Beth has been named a Fellow of the American Health Information Management Association (FAHIMA) in honor of her work as a practitioner and her contributions to the field of health information management.

Beth wrote and co-wrote the first and second versions of McGraw-Hill Education's Integrated Electronic Health Records: A Worktext for Greenway Medical Technologies' PrimeSUITE. Beth and her husband have three children and live in Martinsburg, West Virginia.
