The dramatic theft of an 18th Century painting is discovered just moments before the old manor house uniquely depicted in the background of the portrait is set alight; coincidence? Does the reputation of the Baronet, the subject of the painting, as a hell-raiser and member of the Crustacean club have any connection to the fire? Catherine Aird is the author of more than twenty crime novels and story collections, most of which feature Detective Inspector Sloan. She was awarded the CWA Diamond Dagger for her lifetime contributions to crime fiction. She holds an honorary MA from the University of Kent and was made an MBE. Apart from writing the successful Chronicles of Calleshire, she has also written and edited a series of village histories. She lives in Kent.
