Lye and Wollescote: A Fourth Selection by Pat Dunn
Pat Dunn presents another glimpse into the history of Lye, Wollescote and Stambermill, small Black Country communities spawned by the Industrial Revolution. In a collection of over 200 atmospheric photographs, the independence, sociability and humour of their inhabitants are shown, depicting alehouses and allotments, bands, choirs great gardens and industrial streets. Focusing mainly on people, this title attempts to capture the environment and the spirit of these Black Country folk. This spirit enabled them to rise above a frequently grim reality and has survived the monumental changes to the area over the last half century.
Pat Dunn is a former history teacher. She founded the Lye & Wollescote Historical Society in 2003 as a result of her first three books on this area of the Black Country, all of which were in the Britain in Old Photographs series. She lives in Hagley.
