The mean neighbourhood dog, Mad Dog McGraw, is always chasing the young hero of the book. Everyone is scared of Mad Dog but our child hero knows there must be a way to deal with him. The child tries various ingenious ideas but Mad Dog always wins. But when introduced to a cat called Bait, Mad Dog is suddenly friendly. Finally the child works out that making friends is the answer and that Mad Dog might not be such a mean dog after all.
Myron Uhlberg was the firstborn of deaf parents in a time before television, and he developed an early love for the magic of words. He is now a full-time writer living in California. His grandmother introduced him to the 'mad dog' that inspired this book. Lydia Monks was born in England and currently lives in London. She has an honours degree in illustration from Kingston University, Surrey. Lydia has worked for newspapers and magazines and has illustrated many children's books.
