Mahabharatha, The by Arni Samhita

The Mahabharatha, a great Indian epic, is a compelling chronicle of ambition and destruction. Samhita Arni's re-telling - written when she was just twelve years old - is bold and unorthodox in its depiction of characters, and in the sharply critical tone it adopts towards the epic's main theme: war. Illustrated with charming and intricate line drawings, this book offers a fresh and accessible perspective on this timeless myth. Originally published in the UK as two separate volumes, the book is now available as single combined edition.
"This is no ordinary bookIt is a long and beautifully told tale that captures the excitement and strangeness of the ancient Indian epic of gods and humans - I would highly recommend it to all children, it is definitely a must read." - The Guardian Children's Website
Samhita was born in Chennai, India, but as the daughter of a diplomat grew up in India, Indonesia, Italy, Pakistan and Thailand. Interested in Hindu mythology from an early age, her illustrated version of The Mahabharatha was published by Tara Books in 1996, and went on to be translated into seven languages. Since then, she studied film and religion at Mount Holyoke College, USA, and wrote the text for the NY Times Bestseller Sita's Ramayana, also published by Tara Books.
