He has almost 200 short stories, four collections, and a chapbook to his credit, as well as novels from Tor Books, Night Shade Books, and Fairwood Press. Lake is also the co-editor of Wheatland Press's critically acclaimed Polyphony anthology series with Deborah Layne. Lake got the John W. Wooden Award in 2004. The Campbell Award for Best New Writer is given to the best new writer. He's also been nominated for a Hugo Award for short fiction and three World Fantasy Awards for editing.
