Born and educated in India, R.K.Narayan (1906-2001) wrote fourteen novels, numerous short stories and essays, a biography, and three retold myths. His writing was frequently compared to those of Dickens, Chekhov, Faulkner, and Flannery O'Connor, among others, and was championed by Graham Greene, who became a personal friend.
