Pieter A.Folkens (artist) is widely regarded as one of the best marine animal illustrators in the world. He has contributed to a number of books, including The Sierra Club Handbook of Seals and Sirenians and The Academic Press Encyclopedia of Marine Mammals. He's also worked on film and television projects like Star Trek IV, Flipper, and Free Willy, where he designed cetaceans. He spent his summers in Alaska studying the feeding ecology of Killer and Humpback Whales as a founding board member of the Alaska Whale Foundation, a non-profit marine mammal research and conservation organization. Folkens is a Californian who lives in Benicia.

For nearly 25 years, Randall R.Reeves (Sperm Whales, Beaked Whales, River Dolphins, Beluga and Narwhal, Ocean Dolphins, Porpoises, Glossary) has been active in marine mammal study, ranging from field studies in the Arctic, the North Atlantic, and the Indus and Amazon Rivers to archival research on the history of whaling. He edited Conservation and Management of Marine Mammals (Smithsonian) and co-authored The Sierra Club Handbook of Whales and Dolphins and The Sierra Club Handbook of Seals and Sirenians. Reeves is a Ph.D. holder. McGill University in Montreal, Canada

He has been the chairman of the International Conservation Union's (IUCN) Cetacean Specialist Group since 1997. Reeves is a resident of Hudson, Quebec. Phillip J.Clapham (Introduction, Baleen Whales) is a renowned giant whale expert. He's studied a number of whale species all around the world and contributed to various books, including Humpback Whales (Voyageur Press), Whales of the World (Voyageur Press), and The Complete Book of North American Mammals (Smithsonian).

Clapham is a Ph.D. holder. in Biology from Aberdeen University in Scotland. He works as a Research Associate at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., and resides in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, where he runs a huge whale research program. Since the late 1970s, Brent S. Stewartt (Polar Bear and Otters, Pinnipeds) has been studying and writing on marine animals.

He has contributed to various works on marine animals, including The Smithsonian Book of North American Mammals and The Sierra Club Handbook of Seals and Sirenians. He is a Ph.D. holder. with a J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles from the Berkeley campus of the University of California.

Stewart works as a Senior Research Biologist at the Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Center in San Diego, California, and as a Marine Science and Foreign Affairs Officer for the State Department in Washington, D.C. Sir James A. Powell (Sirenians) is a world-renowned authority on manatees. He has spent the last thirty years conducting field research on sirenians all over the world, from Florida to the West Indies and Belize, and has spent ten years studying the West African Manatee in remote areas of western Africa. He is a Ph.D. holder.

Cambridge University, UK, has a Ph.D. in Zoology. He is the co-chair of the International Conservation Union's (IUCN) Sirenia Specialist Group. Powell works for the Wildlife Trust in Sarasota, Florida, as the Director of Aquatic Programs.
