Mark Peel & Nancy Silverton at Home by Mark Peel
Working as a software engineer on a mining company's asteroid, Derek suffers a terrible accident which removes several limbs. Tricked into an exoskeleton, or shell, he finds that the shell makes him into a sentient machine. Derek is now one of many forced to work for the company with no pay and no rights. Derek begins a desperate race for freedom, both his own and the other shells. This quest against an uncertain foe soon takes Derek into an area of abandoned space that supported a once-mighty empire. Is their entity connected to the sinister extinct race that created his shell, or something even darker? Will his unique shell, with its one frightening weakness, condemn him to a fate of unending servitude, or worse, will he fall into the wrong hands and be deactivated?
