She grew up in Newport, Rhode Island and spent her summers at the beach and exploring the coastline. She moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in her early thirties and has been there since. She's married to Alan Perper, has three grown children, Raichel, Renee, and Isaac, and has three grand-pets, Sherbert, Sorbet, and Toaster. She and her eldest daughter, Raichel Perper, took all of the photos in the intertidal zones near Dillon Beach, California.
