Martha Inc. by Christopher M Byron

In this paperback edition of the hardcover international bestseller, new material has been included to update readers on the most recent headlines that have kept Martha Stewart in the news, such as the ImClone insider trading scandal. Martha Inc. is an up-to-the-minute investigative portrait of an enterprising and controversial woman and her hold on American domestic culture. Through an engaging narrative by investigative journalist Christopher Byron, Martha Inc. chronicles the compelling story of how Martha Stewart created an empire on domesticity and looks at the price Martha has paid to achieve her dreams. To get a true portrait of the woman whose work is her life, Byron delves into the hidden world of Martha's past, such as the effects her challenging childhood and years on Wall Street have had on her uncompromising standards. From Martha Stewart Living magazine and marthastewart.com to a Kmart line of housewares, a line of house paints, and a television show, Martha Inc. details how a former caterer from Connecticut created a media and merchandising empire that now reaches from Manhattan to Asia, Latin America to India. Leaving no stone unturned, Byron uncovers how Martha Stewart is managing recent events, from allegations of insider trading to Kmart's bankruptcy. Equal parts Citizen Kane and Horatio Alger, Martha Inc. is more of a must-read than ever.
