Martha Speaks by Susan Meddaugh

When Helen Finney feeds alphabet soup to her dog, Martha, it goes straight up to her brain, and Martha begins to speak! The basis for the Emmy-nominated PBS series.

Having a talking dog is a lot of fun--unless your dog never stops talking! When chatty Martha gives her family the silent treatment they're relieved at first, but then they get worried. Will Martha ever speak again?

Susan Meddaugh worked for ten years at a publishing house, first as a designer, then as an art editor, and eventually as an art director, before going freelance as an illustrator and children's book author. Susan is the author and illustrator of a number of successful children's books, including Martha Talks, which was named a New York Times Best Illustrated Book in 1992. Her Martha Talks book series was transformed into a PBS Kids TV show that won an award. She resides in the town of Sherborn, Massachusetts.
