Martin's Hundred by Ivor Noel Hume

The author describes his archeological excavation of a seventeenth-century English settlement in Virginia and his discovery of evidence of the early colonial way of life.

His book A Guide to Objects of Colonial America is the standard source on the subject. He led the team that uncovered the first traces of England's failed Roanoke Island colony. Queen Elizabeth II awarded Hume an OBE (Order of the British Empire) in 1992 for his services to British cultural interests in Virginia. He is a resident of Williamsburg, Virginia.
