She is also the co-author (with Nate Marshall) of No Blue Memories: The Life of Gwendolyn Brooks and the author of Ghosts in the Schoolyard: Racism and School Closings on Chicago's South Side. She teaches at the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration as an assistant professor. Her writing has appeared in publications such as The New Yorker, The Atlantic, and The New York Times, among others.
