New shoes, a birthday kitten, losing a teddy, being a bridesmaid, going to hospital, starting school . . . Each of these stories focuses on a new experience for Mary Kate, demonstrating how day-to-day events in a young child's life can seem like exciting adventures.
Helen Morgan was born in 1921. She lost her sight at the age of twelve, but partially regained it a year later. She learned braille and trained as a shorthand typist for the blind, but her ambition was always to write and she spent most of her early years working on short stories and poetry. She married in 1954 and had three children.
