The first British graduate of William and Mary College, Morpungo enjoyed a notable career in publishing at Penguin, and he later became Director of the National Book League. Charles Lamb was an English essayist best known for Essays of Elia and the children's book Tales from Shakespeare. J. E. Morpurgo was a professor of English at the University of Leeds.
