Mastering Phobias by Richard Stern
The author became interested in phobias as a registrar involved in the development of a London phobia clinic. He helped in the conducting of early, and excitingly successful, experiments in treating sufferers by behavioural techniques. With straightforward cases such as fear of spiders these methods did indeed work. However, it soon became apparent that many phobias were less easy to define and needed more complex courses of treatment. This book gives an account of the different kinds of phobia and the various ways of treating them: covering cognitive therapy, the use of "sensate focus" in sexual phobias, self-help for social phobia, and the role of medication. It also includes useful advice, and two questionnaires, to enable the reader to judge if he/she has a phobia, and if so, what can be done.| SKU | Unavailable |
