Since its foundation in 1768, the Royal Academy has counted many of Britain's most illustrious architects among its membership. This handsome book, generously funded by the Thaw Charitable Trust, illustrates the architect-Academician's Diploma Works. Neil Bingham's incisive texts explore the background to each work, and his illuminating introduction considers the discipline of architecture within the history of the Royal Academy as a whole.

Neil Bingham is a historian of architecture and design. He is curator of contemporary architectural collections at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, and was previously architectural drawings curator at the Royal Academy of Arts, London, and the Royal Institute of British Architecture. His numerous published works include Masterworks: Architecture at the Royal Academy of Arts (2011), Fantasy Architecture, 1500-2036 (2004) and Modern Retro: Living with Mid-Century Style (2000).
