Max and the Spice Thieves by John Peragine
Torn from all he knows on the worst day of his life, Max Daybreaker finds shelter as a cabin boy aboard a spice pirate ship led by the mysterious Captain Sin. Max is safe and getting used to his adventurous new life on the mystical three seas, when he learns his mom's disappearance that fateful day was a kidnapping. Now, nothing can stop him from finding her. An unlikely group supports his search-a teenage warrior princess, a three-eyed seer, a spy, Captain Sin, and his first mate, Piers. As their journey takes them through desert, ocean, jungle, and ice, they meet many magical creatures: shapeshifting bears, the Witch Queen, harpies, and the nightmarish Djinn, who command the dangerous Twilight Army. Max and his new friends soon discover that the Djinn will stop at nothing in their quest to enslave the world. Only a mythological stone called the Midnight Jewel holds the power to stop them, but will Max find it in time?
Walker, George M.: - George M. Walker is a native of Peru, Indiana, and relocated to the historic area of Rancho Cucamonga, California, in 2000. With his wife of twenty-six years, Angela, and their four children--Clayton, Donovan, Myra and Ella--George's extreme passion for vineyards and wine has grown exponentially with each year following the making of his first home vintage in Indiana in 1994. His love of the Cucamonga history and heritage is evidenced by the writing of this book and his recent founding of a new old winery now located in the same historic facility that once held the Vai Brothers Winery in Rancho Cucamonga.
