McSweeney's Issue 16 by Mcsweeney's

McSweeney's Issue 16 is as unlike a regular book as you can imagine. It takes the form of a fold-out cover (not just the jacket, but the actual board), with a drawing silkscreened onto the cloth on one side, and the other divided into four quadrants, each with a pocket. And in these pockets you'll find: a booklet with stories by Denis Johnson, Roddy Doyle and a bunch of newcomers; a novella (in its own notebook) by Ann Beattie, with a guest appearance by Harry Mathews; a story by Robert Coover, written on the thirteen hearts from a deck of cards that can be shuffled and read in any order; and an ordinary comb. So, in short, McSweeney's Issue 16 is an elaborate concoction brought to you by the very people responsible for the gorgeous McSweeney's Comics Issue and the enlightening Future Dictionary of America. A real treat, to be sure.

Dave Eggers is the author of twelve books, including The Monk of Mokha; The Circle; Heroes of the Frontier; A Hologram for the King, a finalist for the National Book Award; and What Is the What, a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award and winner of France's Prix Médicis Etranger. He is the founder of McSweeney's and the cofounder of 826 Valencia, a youth writing center that has inspired similar programs around the world, and of ScholarMatch, which connects donors with students to make college accessible. He is the winner of the Dayton Literary Peace Prize and is the cofounder of Voice of Witness, a book series that illuminates human rights crises through oral history. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letter. His work has been translated into forty- two languages.
