The Meadow Vale Ponies: Mulberry to the Rescue! by Che Golden

Disaster strikes at Meadow Vale Stables! Horse thieves have come in the middle of the night and stolen Sam's pony, Mulberry. Horses, Velvet and Lucy, are missing too, and no one knows if any of them will ever be seen again. The horses are taken to a rundown farm and locked up in dirty stables, watched over by a sly cat. Clever Mulberry escapes, but who is going to believe that Sam can talk to Mulberry and knows where the horse thieves are hiding? With Sam riding Mulberry bareback, they set out on the rescue mission alone - alone except for the mischievous Shetland ponies who don't want to be left out of the excitement! But when they get there, it's not just the ponies who need rescuing - a pair of surprisingly cuddly ferrets need their help too. Can Sam and Mulberry save Velvet and the other animals before it's too late? A funny, heart-warming story about a girl and her very mischievous pony.
'Wholesome young fiction for the pony-mad. . a new series packed with humour and fun horse facts.' * The Bookseller *
Che Golden is a graduate of the Masters course in Creative Writing for Young People at Bath Spa University and The Meadow Vale Ponies series are her first books for OUP. Apart from writing, Che's other passion is horses. Che's first horse was Velvet, a huge, black Irish cob who not only taught Che how to ride, but taught her two little girls as well. Now, they own Charlie Brown, a rather neurotic New Forest pony, and Robbie, a very laid back Highland pony. Mulberry is based on a little black mare, Brie, who Che's daughter fell in love with, despite the fact that Brie managed to terrorize a yard of 50 horses, and vets wanted danger money to go anywhere near her. Thomas Docherty is an enormously talented illustrator. He spends much of his time visiting schools and libraries, meeting his readers and helping them to create their own stories. He lives in Bristol with his wife and two young daughters. Little Boat, which he illustrated and wrote, was shortlisted for the highly prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal.
