Measurement in Fluid Mechanics by Stavros Tavoularis

Measurement in Fluid Mechanics is an introductory general reference in experimental fluid mechanics, describing both classical and more modern methods for flow visualization and for measuring flow rate, pressure, velocity, temperature, concentration, and wall shear stress. Particularly suitable as a textbook for graduate and advanced undergraduate courses, Measurement in Fluid Mechanics is also a valuable tool for practising engineers and applied scientists. This book is written by a single author, in a consistent and straightforward style, with plenty of clear illustrations, an extensive bibliography, and over 100 suggested exercises. Measurement in Fluid Mechanics also features extensive background materials in system response, measurement uncertainty, signal analysis, optics, fluid mechanical apparatus, and laboratory practices, which shield the reader from having to consult with a large number of primary references. Whether for instructional or reference purposes, this book is a valuable tool for the study of fluid mechanics.
'… well presented … well produced … an excellent additional reference text for any fluid flow laboratory… sufficient information and detail in the book to enable the reader to get a fundamental understanding of the principles underwriting the technology, if he requires …' Journal of Process Mechanical Engineering
'This book steers well between the essentially trivial and the excessively mathematical - balancing between description, illustration, reference and mathematics in a careful and consistent way. I would recommend this book if an introduction to flow measurement is what you are looking for - it is illustrative, interesting and well written.' Measurement and Control
'…an excellent introduction to fluid mechanics measurement topics. …the author has done an admirable job of providing a broad but balanced overview… This book will serve as a good reference for practising experimentalists and as a starting point for those interested in learning about a new topic.' Theoretical and Computational Fluid Dynamics
'… Professor Tavoularis's excellent book … succeeds in bringing clarity and sense to the whole issue of experiments in fluid mechanics. This is a book that can be recommended to anyone working in fluid mechanics. On a basic level it provides a ready reference for the essential workings of the main experimental measurement processes that are so often referred to in the literature but which are rarely given sufficient explanation … this book can [also] be used in a much more advanced way to plan an entire experimental programme …' Journal of Fluid Mechanics
Stavros Tavoularis is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ottawa and has served as Department Chair and Director of the Ottawa-Carleton Institute for Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.
