Measuring Angels by Lesley Ely
Two girls who don't get on are given a sunflower seed in class to grow. As friendship develops between the two girls, the little plant grows bigger and bigger...
With strong childish, and narrated by the chhild, this is just the book for a youngster who might have difficulties fitting in during the early days of school|| What a sunny, uplifting book. || Reading this book made my eyes tingle with tears. There are many angels in the story: the one the children make to help the ailing sunflower grow; Gabriel with his fascination for angels; the perceptive teacher who knows how to help two girls mend their relationship. The hurt of our narrator, picked on at school, is powerful. But she finds her way through the help of the angels. Beautifully illustrated, with much conveyed through simple but effective facial expressions.
