Meet January!

January is a lovable character we can all relate to: trying to get out of bed on the first day back to school after winter break. January loves to be cozy and warm and play with her new toys. Finally, the day comes when winter break is almost over. She does not like the cold, but she wants to wish her friends a Happy New Year! Will she make it to school? January finds herself feeling blue, but with the help of friends, that feeling fades away.

Book 1 of the The Calendar Kids Book Series

Created by an elementary school teacher, the Calendar Kids collection is a tool to assist educators and parents in teaching children about the months of the year. It is our goal to help children recall events and weather that take place during different months of the year.

About the author

While teaching, author April Martin discovered there were not many books about the months of the year. That is where her very own name gave her an idea! She created characters that help visualize the months and fun stories that include American holidays.

Martin, April V.: - Dr. April V. Martin was published in Who's Who Among American High School Students for maintaining a 4.0 GPA throughout high school. At the University of Maryland College Park, she was on the National Dean's List all four years and obtained a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and criminology, a master's degree and a doctorate degree in psychology. Dr. Martin has been employed with the Department of the Treasury for twenty years and is also in the real estate field. She has participated in several speaking panels on topics ranging from the mass shootings in Florida to self-care and has been featured on Fox 5 DC News, Fox 45 News Baltimore, and The Community Focus Show, hosted by 95.5's Guy Lambert. She has been interviewed by her college alumni organization on stress in the workplace as well as by the University of Maryland Black Alumni association for a Terp Spotlight on her life since graduation. Dr. Martin founded Achieving Mental Victory, Inc., a nonprofit mental health practice helping to combat the stigma against mental illness. She is married to her college sweetheart and they have three beautiful daughters.
