Meg by Paula A Vogel
3m, 2f / Platforms, moveable props American College Theatre Festival Winner. Base on the life of Margaret More Roper. The political and ruthless male hierarchies of Henry VIII and the Church are offstage forces imprisoning Meg, a unique woman isolated from her time and environment through the gift and curse of her developed intellect. MEG intertwines several themes and levels: It is the story of Sir Thomas More seen through his daughter's eyes, it's about a young wife and mother - and it's also an exploration of the father-daughter relationship painfully becoming a man-woman one - as Meg discovers "both diminish in size." It's not a history play - rather a play about history - and the ignored role women have played in history.Paula Vogel's play How I Learned to Drive won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1998, as well as the Lortel Prize, the Drama Desk, the Outer Critics Circle, and the New York Drama Critics Awards for Best Play. It also earned Vogel her second Obie Award. The Baltimore Waltz, Desdemona, And Baby Makes Seven, The Long Christmas Journey Home, A Civil War Christmas, and Don Juan Returns Home from Iraq are among the other productions. She's also had a long and illustrious career as a teacher and adviser to aspiring playwrights, first at Brown University and now at Yale School of Drama.
