Meister Eckhart by Richard Woods Op

This title offers a clear exposition of important themes in Eckhart's spiritual teaching at a time of huge interest in mystical theology. During his life time, Eckhart was a thinker and teacher of huge influence. In the great Dominican tradition he was a man of extraordinary intellectual gifts but also a wise teacher of those interested in seriously exploring the call to personal holiness. But like many men and women of genius, he fell foul of the Church authorities who felt threatened by his originality and machinated to have him condemned. Richard Woods who is deeply in touch with the spiritual needs of people today believes that Eckhart's time has come once again and that he is more than ever a man for our times. The case he makes is entirely convincing and relates not just to intellectual interests but to the problems of human, physical and mental suffering.
‘This book helped me a great dealIt offers a nifty biographical sketch, it touches on many neglected themes and it looks closely at the processes that led up to [Eckhart's] condemnation... It is always enjoyable to read about him and if you require a brief, frothy and reliable introduction to this most puzzling of Christians you should pick up Wood's book.' -- The Catholic Herald
... thought-provoking. -- Fairacres Chronicle Vol. 44 No.1
... for those prepared to grapple with the complex thinking of Eckhart, Meister Eckhart opens avenues for exploration, both in theory and for practice. -- The Church Times
I thoroughly recommend you to read this. -- Quarterly Review of the Community of the Resurrection
In sum, the reader will find here an excellent survey of Eckhart scholarship and a real sensitivity in the discussion to the ways in which Eckhart can contribute new understandings to the challenged which face us today. -- The Tablet
The volume constitutes a rich topical study, which will serve as a valuable tool for scholars as well as for advanced undergraduate and graduate students ... This volume offers a substantive discussion of many of the most central topics in Meister Eckhart’s mysticism. -- Charlotte Radler, Loyola Marymount University, USA * Journal of the American Academy of Religion *
