Men Behind the Medals by Air Commodore Graham Pitchfork
This book pays tribute to the quite remarkable bravery of those young men who risked, and all too often lost, their lives for their country during the war. The author, himself a distinguished Royal Air Force officer, has singled out twenty-one men to represent Othe many' to whom he dedicated the book; but he has chosen them with care to illustrate, as far as possible, the wide scope of the duties of the Royal Air Force in wartime.
Born in 1939, Sheffield, Graham Pitchfork served in the Royal Air Force for 36 years before retiring in 1994. He forged a distinguished career for himself and his last appointment before his retirement was as a Director of Intelligence in the Military of Defence. He was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society in 1991 and is member of the Royal Air Force Historical Society, the Air League, the Aircrew Association and the Orders and Medals Research Society. He is a keen glider pilot holding the FAI gold award with two diamonds.
