Mermaid by Margaret Millar

Married in the Sight of God is a case study into the contemporary sexual ethics debates in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Christian B. Scharen analyzes the origin, rhetorical use, and institutionalization of the Lutheran orders of creation theology used to exclude gays and lesbians. In addition, this study shows that the Lutheran tradition holds neglected possibilities for an affirming theological and ethical position that blesses the lives and leadership of people -- homosexual or heterosexual -- who make life-long promises of love and fidelity one to another.

Margaret Millar (1915-1994) was a great pioneer of psychological mysteries and thrillers and the author of 27 books. She was born in Kitchener, Ontario, and spent the majority of her life in Santa Barbara, California, with her husband, Ken Millar, better known by his pseudonym Ross MacDonald. Her novel Beast in View, published in 1956, was awarded the Edgar Allan Poe Award for Best Novel. Millar received the Woman of the Year Award from the Los Angeles Times in 1965, and the Grand Master Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Mystery Writers of America in 1983. Millar's razor-sharp humor and deft plotting have cemented her place as one of the most prominent crime authors of her generation and following ones.
