Malcolm Green was born in North London during World War II, but his family relocated to Southern Rhodesia in 1951, where his father worked in the tobacco and cigarette industry. After completing his driving test and commencing work in Salisbury in 1960, he became involved with MG automobiles. An interest in sports automobiles grew swiftly as a result of articles in magazines such as The Autocar and Motor Sport. Lunchtime and evening visits to local auto dealers, pretended to be interested in buying, sometimes resulted in a test drive, and Triumph TRs, Austin-Healeys, and MGAs were sampled. Many still asked for the bonnet to be opened to look at the transverse engine, despite the fact that Minis were a rarity in Rhodesia at the time. After his return to England in 1962, he became involved with the marque by purchasing a new 1098cc Mark l Midget and joining The MG Car Club. The first of several repair projects saw a very well-used 1936 TA in their garage a few years after marrying Andrea in 1967. This was restored to full functioning condition with Andrea's engineer father's assistance.
That car sparked an interest in the history of MG cars, leading to trips to the Abingdon factory and encounters with many of the people who had worked for the company since its inception. Malcolm began dealing in books, first part-time and then full-time, after deciding that a career in finance was not for him. He has published articles on MGs and other British sports cars to magazines such as MG Enthusiast, Loving MG, and The Automobile during the last thirty years. He's authored eight books about middle grade novels.
