The richly woven and embroidered textiles explored in this book belong to the Miao minority group of Guizhou province in south-west China. The Miao's elaborate festival costumes are not only their most important possessions, but can be considered the major living visual art form of their culture, with over 100 specially commissioned colour photographs.
Gina Corrigan leads tours and textile study groups to China. She has been visting the country regularly since 1973 and during this time has developed a special interest in researching and collecting Miao textiles. She recently organized a fascinating BP showcase exhibition of these with the British Museum. She is author and photographer of the Odyssey Illustrated Guide to Guizhou and lives in Sussex.
