Michelangelo is one of the most famous and renowned artists in history.

Michelangelo Buonaroti (1475-1564), the great Italian sculptor and painter, was often called the greatest artist of all time due to his accomplishments during the Renaissance era. His work with the papacy included redesigning multiple churches and two grand commissions, including painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel for Pope Julius I.

Michelangelo wasn't just an artistic genius; he had a flair for verse and wrote hundreds of love sonnets and religious poems, some of which appeared in major publications such as The New Yorker Magazine. He also excelled at architecture and designed several buildings including one of his most celebrated works--St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.
