This compact, practical handbook for busy lay preachers and ministers aims to aid in the preparation of sermons which take seriously the lectionary readings for Year B, especially through collecting some of the fruits of the best current biblical scholarship. The author's comments are written in a variety of styles: some make brief but direct suggestions about how a sermon might be preached from lection; others begin from contemporary life, and then move into the lectionary reading. All the comments take the biblical text seriously, and lead the preacher to engage directly with scripture.
Michael J Townsend served in three Methodist circuits before taking up his present appointment as Chair of Leeds Methodist District in 1994.
