Mischief on the Moors: A Bloomsbury Reader by Stephen Davies
Book Band: Grey, ideal for ages 8+ A hilarious folklore-inspired adventure featuring two BMX-riding heroines by award-winning author Stephen Davies. Daisy and Liberty are two bored sisters living in The-Middle-of-Nowhere, Dartmoor. The most adventure they ever have is riding their BMX bikes around the local abandoned quarry, until one day they come across a mysterious creature, and their world turns upside down! This magical adventure is immersed in local Dartmoor legend, and features black-and-white illustrations by Marta Dorado. The Bloomsbury Readers series is packed with book-banded stories to get children reading independently in Key Stage 2 by award-winning authors like double Carnegie Medal winner Geraldine McCaughrean and Waterstones Prize winner Patrice Lawrence. With engaging illustrations and online guided reading notes written by the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education (CLPE), this series is ideal for home and school. Stephen Davies writes picture books, chapter books, young adult novels, TV tie-ins and educational books. His first book Sophie and the Albino Camel won the Glen Dimplex Prize for best debut children’s book. Since then, he has written more than twenty books, including a series of six Hilda novels to accompany the popular Netflix animation. Stephen enjoys visiting schools in the UK and overseas, helping students with their own creative writing. Marta Dorado is an illustrator who was born in Gijón (Asturias, Spain) in 1989 and lives in Pamplona. Her childhood, surrounded by nature and close to the sea, strongly influences Marta's work. She's also inspired by music (classic and folk), beauty, and magic.
