Miss Bobbin by Martyn Jones

“Grandad’s coming today, you better be ready” It was those words from her parents that left Bobbin both nervous and excited as she was to stay with her Great Grandfather and her Great Grandmother Gigi for the first time on her own. It was to be the beginning of an awesome experience and awakening, as gently at first her beloved Grandad and Gigi opened her eyes to the wonders and mysteries of the natural world and the gift she had. Through a series of adventures, you are introduced to the Lord Devon, his family and his wise councillor Alfred the Owl and all the other animals through the seasons.
I have been working with an ambulance service for some seven years with clinicians in the back of my ambulance. We are a cog in the wheel of the Emergency Paediatric Recovery team collecting dangerously sick children from their local hospitals to Centres of Excellence throughout the South of England, so that these children could receive suitable treatment. For me, that time was the most emotionally testing, meaningful and satisfying period of my working life so far. It was my Grandson James a Paramedic also with my service, who on the birth of his delightful daughter Robyn asked me to write a series of short stories for him and his wife Sophie on the countryside and the natural world to read to their child when she grew older. So, out of that conversation came Miss Bobbin and all her friends from the Wild Wood, the Oak Wood where the Fairies live and the High Moor.
